Surgex Sports Athlete Roundup: Week Eight
Week eight was a busy week for Surgex Sports and our athletes. Three of our athletes were put on the Pro Bowl voting ballot. You can vote for San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle, Chicago Bears special teams star Blake Costanzo, and St. Louis Rams rookie cornerback Janoris Jenkins here. Find out more about Pro Bowl voting here.
Despite the San Diego Chargers dropping their third straight game, the defense was exceptional. The Chargers defense gave up just one touchdown and held rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden to just 129 yards on 11 of 27 passing. Weddle had another great game with five tackles and a forced fumble. The 2011 All-Pro safety continues to lead an improved Chargers defense.
Bentley was inactive for week eight due to a shoulder injury. The Lions were able to overcome the Seattle Seahawks for a 28-24 victory.
Costanzo and the Chicago Bears outlasted the Carolina Panthers 23-22 to stay atop the NFC North at 6-1. The Bears play at Tennessee week nine.
Jenkins and the St. Louis Rams were highlighted in their week eight match up against the New England Patriots. Unfortunately for the Rams, Tom Brady and the Patriots came to play in the NFL’s annual regular season game in London. Jenkins had five tackles, but he and the Rams secondary struggled. Brady threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns on route to a 45-7 win over the Rams. The 3-5 Rams have a bye week then head to San Francisco week ten.
