Monday Night Football Recap: Tennessee Titans 14 – New York Jets 10
In an ugly game, the Titans ended the Jets playoff hopes with a 14-10 victory Monday night. The Jets turned the ball over five times, while the Titans committed 14 penalties. The game still had some excitement down the stretch, as the Jets had two chances to take the lead, but both drives ended in turnovers. On the bright side, both defenses played well, with each team collecting four sacks.
Johnson is clearly one of the more talented backs in the league, but with the injuries to the Titans line, he’s been very hot and cold this season. He couldn’t find much running room for most of the night, but with his tremendous speed, he was able to break free for a 94-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Johnson finished with 122 yards for 18 points in standard leagues, proving that one big play can turn a bad fantasy performance into a great one.
With four interceptions and a fumble recovery, the Titans racked up 19 fantasy points on defense. The Titans rank towards the bottom of fantasy D’s, but this was a lesson in playing the match ups. If you don’t have a great defense, you can often find success by finding new teams throughout the year based on the opponents. In this case, the Titans were available in a lot of leagues, and the Jets are one of the best teams for a fantasy D to face. It doesn’t always work, but on Monday, the Titans made a strong case for this strategy.
He’s not on many fantasy rosters, but TE Jeff Cumberland actually led the Jets in fantasy points, grabbing 4 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. Cumberland has now scored twice in the last three weeks, so if you’re searching for a tight end, he could be worth a shot. Although with the Jets offense in such disarray, there’s probably a safer option in your league.
