In a Monday night battle of backup quarterback’s, one quarterback shined and one landed flat on their face. San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick had a breakout game against a solid Chicago Bears defense. Meanwhile, Bears backup quarterback Jason Campbell left fans hoping Jay Cutler gets back on the field in time for the Bears next game.

The 49ers dominated the Bears on both sides of the ball. The 49ers defense forced two fumbles, two interceptions, and sacked Campbell six times Monday night. Meanwhile, the 49ers offense actually looked better with Kaepernick behind center. Could there be a quarterback controversy looming?

Kaepernick passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns to Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree. His performance is making some question whether he is the 49ers franchise quarterback and not Alex Smith. Kaepernick looked like a seasoned quarterback and he provides the 49ers with the ability to run with the ball, something Alex Smith isn’t known for.

After the game, head coach Jim Harbough added fuel to the fire by saying he would go with the hot hand. Both quarterback’s have been playing well, but if Kaepernick can play like he did Monday night, he clearly adds another dimension to the 49ers offense. Fantasy owners will need to monitor the situation closely.

Jason Campbell threw two interceptions and was never able to get in a rhythm. The Bears offense was clearly not the same without Jay Cutler behind center. After the game, Bears head coach Lovie Smith said Cutler was feelingĀ better and there is a good chance he will return week 12. Fantasy owners will need to monitor both teams quarterback situations closely heading into week 12.
