Monday night’s game was a match up of equally disappointing teams. Going into 2012 both the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles had playoff aspirations. Now, more than halfway into the season, both franchises are scrambling to find some positive signs for next season. The Panthers 30-22 defeat of the Eagles left Philadelphia wondering if their head coach Andy Reid will make it through another week with his job.

The Eagles fell to 3-8 on the season and lost their seventh consecutive game. It seems the big question is not if, but when Reid will lose his job. Give quarterback Nick Foles some credit, he was not terrible. He didn’t throw a touchdown, but also didn’t throw any interceptions. Foles was 16 of 21 for 115 yards. Although not spectacular, Foles was able to run a safe offense.

The lone bright spot for the Eagles and fantasy owners was the play of running back Bryce Brown. On 16 carries, Brown rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

The Panthers (3-8)¬†offense was run entirely on the shoulders of quarterback Cam Newton. I’m guessing at this point in the season, fantasy owners have lost faith in Newton and didn’t start him. However, for those of you who have stuck with Newton, you were rewarded in a big way Monday night. Newton threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more. Despite a rough season, Newton showed why he was such a valuable fantasy quarterback coming into the season.
